I dun fucked up. Again. (Here's my blog from Feb 10)

Agh it turns out I posted my previous post to my other blog!
http://embolina26.blogspot.com/

Here's what it was supposed to be:

I'm in the process of getting ready to move to Dublin in the fall so I thought why not go ahead and have my commemorative piece be about there and how incredible it is? I've been inspired by the rainbow bright colors of downtown and by the iconic bridges, everyone knows and loves.

The Countess! Part 1

So I've been working MERCILESSLY on the Countess, having to scenic paint at 8am every MWF regardless of snow because well, the show is happening regardless of snow. So through a sinus infection and an upper respiratory infection, I've been doing this:

Here's my almost finished rocks- just have to finish the grout!
 Here's the marbling up close!

And this is the fire place almost finished!

Project Sketch 2

So then I talked to one of the advanced students and she helped set me in a better direction. I'm abstracting my piece a little bit and incorporating the graffti art thats in the town, mainly in the Temple Bar district of Dublin.

I also wanted to include the Dub Linn with the line patterned grass field.

Mystery "Enamel"?

one of the professors in the Art department came by with what they thought was enamel.....

Having not fired this for very long and having prepared all of the things correctly.. This happened.
AND THEN it, like a jumping-bean, flaked off... So confusing.

Project Sketch 1

So here was my idea, sketched out. I wanted to incorporate the bridges in my design because there's so many of them and I just love the Isle of Dublin with this massive river running through it. And I wanted to incorporate the bright and beautiful buildings that encompass the temple bar district.

Blue and Gold?

Test tiles! Peacock Blue and the back is just the grey counter enamel but in this picture it looks a little gold awkwardly enough.

oh Hey! I'm enameling!

 Workspace!
This is what Peacock Blue looks like right out of the kiln.

24 Hour Play Festival

This weekend I was somehow involved with the 24 Hour Play Festival and became the Food and beverage/meal coordinator, script reader/filler coordinator, the SM for not one but two shows, the costume consultant for the event and Front of House staff. And we managed to produce 7 really great shows in the span of 24 hours. How? No idea. Just a lot of coffee.

Grey is my saving grace.

This girl is one of the main reasons I decided to take Metals. I was terrified and a painter and not into sculptural arts whatsoever and she convinced me to take Metals 1 with her. Now we're in Metals 3 together and getting to see her smile is why I decided to even consider an 8am my senior year final semester.

All these tips have been really helpful in all of our work time.
Everything is very spelled out and written down which is really nice.

First Day of Enameling

For some reason, Enameling is the hardest word for me to say outloud.

I've got a few ideas- I think I'd really like to work with reclaimed materials because I'm all about being sustainable if possible. I also really love the idea of rustic pieces and processes that are a bit rougher.

I would also like to focus on the idea of making the entire semester's works part of the same collection. I need to focus and wittle down ideas making things a bit simpler and cleaner. I think that I'd really like to play off of an idea I've had for a collection for a long time- I really want to use light and color to create spaces. I don't want to make separate trinkets anymore. I want to make some kind of wearable "space" that invokes the senses and plays with the color in the space and the world that surrounds it. Who knows if it's possible. We'll see!
